Yoga for Limited Mobility

Gentle Yoga with Lisa - Sarovara Yoga Bobcaygeon

Wednesday Afternoons

Join Lisa for this class geared towards people with limited mobility. Lisa's experience as an exceptionally caring PSW makes her the perfect yoga teacher to lead this class. This is a class geared towards people who would like to experience the benifits and movements of a yoga class that is not a regular yoga class full of downward dogs, but is also not chair yoga. You might think of this class as a step up from the movements explored in chair yoga. We utilize the ballet barre for movements similiar to downward dog, we use blocks, yoga straps, blankets and bolsters to support the body through gentle mindful movement. We enjoy a slower paced flow of movement with the breath to create a peaceful feeling in the body and mind. Please read more below to find out if this class might be right for you!

More Details

Do you worry that injury, stiffness, disability, illness, or concerns about weight or flexibility mean that you can't participate in a yoga class? Are you currently in a general yoga class and you feel less "able" to do yoga than some of the other people in the class setting who are popping up into downward dog and getting up and down from the floor with ease? Well, despite limited mobility, there are still plenty of ways you can use yoga to boost your mood, ease depression, relieve stress and anxiety, enhance your self-esteem, lengthen, strengthen and improve your mobility, and generally improve your whole outlook on life.

If you have a disability, chronic breathing condition, diabetes, arthritis, or other ongoing illness, you may think that your health problems make it impossible for you to do yoga effectively, if at all. Or perhaps you’re in an aging body and are worried about falling or injuring yourself if you try yoga. The truth is, regardless of your age, current physical condition, and whether you’ve done yoga in the past or not, there are plenty of ways to overcome your mobility issues and reap the physical, mental, and emotional rewards of yoga.

This class is designed for individuals who have limited mobility, for those who think they can’t do yoga due to lack of flexibility. The class focuses on slow gentle yoga that can be modified to each individuals needs. Students will work within their own abilities and range of motion. All props are available to help utilized or modify poses so as to accommodate each persons individual needs. We will incorporate movement with breath to move in a mindful way.

Yoga Teacher & Retreat Assistant Director

Hi, I am Lisa Diem and my motto is Yoga is for ANYONE! Beginners as well as those with a regular practice take comfort in my classes as I provide a very welcoming, warm and loving environment to begin a new journey. In each class I combine classic yoga postures in a thoughtful but light-hearted way, based on what you need.  Pranayama (breathing techniques),  Asana (postures) and Meditation are all incorporated together bringing awareness to "the self" in each class. Bringing the breath, the mind and the body together as one, l believe yoga can literally change our lives on and off the mat. My love of yoga, life and fun nature energy comes to shine in each of my classes.

Yoga has been a big part of my life over the last several years and has helped me over come many obstacles physically, emotionally and mentally.  It has brought me to my true spiritual calling where I am learning peace within. My love is to share my passion with others.
