By utilizing the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements set to fantastic music, Barre is a total body workout that lifts your seat, tones your thighs, abs, and arms, and burns fat in record- breaking time. In just 60 minutes you will achieve a full-body workout concentrating on the areas like hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms. The Ballet Barre technique is low-impact therefore protecting your joints by avoiding any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles without bulk. The technique works to defy gravity by tapering everything in and lifting it up and as a result creating a strong-dancer like body in a fun and energizing way! The concentration involved while taking barre classes allows you to get in the zone for the hour, therefore creates the mental benefits similarly obtained by the practice of yoga, running or resistance training. A transformed body and a clear head in just one hour—it doesn't get much better than this.

What is Barre?

Ally Boothroyd will be leading these barre sessions. In addition to creating fun classes, she makes them unique. Therefore you can be sure that each week you will be learning something new and exciting!

What does Barre do for my body?

When you take Barre classes, you will burn calories and gain lean muscle. The barre's low-impact, isometric movements target and tone certain areas of your body, therefore your heart rate will go up and down depending on how hard you work.

Why does my body shake?

When your body shakes, it means your muscles are reaching the point of fatigue, which is a good thing! Your goal is to have the muscle group you are targeting during a specific section of class shake every time. After the shake, you will stretch, because this elongates the muscles while they are warm and malleable. As a result, this leads to long, lean muscles!

Note: This style of class is a great workout for many different ages and body types. If you want to challenge your body and build muscle, break a sweat and get a great workout, this class is for you!

Meet Your Teacher

I'm Ally, the founder of Sarovara Yoga, a yoga educator and meditation teacher with a passion for yoga nidra and the healing power of conscious rest. My life's path has been one of healing from anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia through the science of yoga, particularly yoga nidra and lifestyle practices such as Ayurveda & chemical-free, natural living.  My life's work is to help people to connect to, restore and renew all levels of their being. My aim is to help people to calm, balance and restore their nervous systems. I teach tools for reversing exhaustion, stress and overwhelm and help people reconnect to their sensitive biorhythms and the natural world. I'm dedicated to inspiring depth, creativity, and joy by sharing the most potent tools from a variety of yogic traditions. I aim to bring an openhearted, inclusive view to my classes, which are a rich blend of Kripalu Yoga along with Classical Hatha Tantra, Yoga Psychology, Yoga Nidra, Integrative Restoration, Amrita Living Yoga & Energy Medicine.
