Scientific study after scientific study has proven what meditators have know for milenia: there are incredibly powerful mental, emotional and physcial benefits that come from meditation - at any age. Best of all, anyone can meditate. In this 5 part series, you’ll learn the benefits and basics of a simple and accessible meditation practice that you can take with you whereever and whenever you like. We’ll practice various techniques to allow you to find the ones that suit you and we’ll dispell myths (no it is not necessary to chant, wear robes, become a Buddhist, or sit in the lotus position for hours!).  We’ll also move during class with fluid, accessible yoga sequeneces designed to be meditations in motion. Best of all we’ll find meaningful calm and rejuvination. 

Join Brian Henderson, a Kripalu- certified yoga instructor, as he supportively guides this affirming series.  All bodies and abilities welcome!

Meet Your Teacher

I truly love yoga.  I love what is has done and continues to do for my body, for my mind and for my spirit. That love of yoga has made me want to share it with others - to help them discover and explore yoga in their own lives, in their own experiences.  And I chose Kripalu - a Yoga and Ayurvedic school and wellness centre in western Massachusetts - to do my teachers training because of their 40 year history in educating yoga teachers.  Kripalu Yoga emphasizes radical self-acceptance, curiosity and self reflection, and a strong and deeply supportive practice of pranayama (breathing), asana (poses) and dhyana (meditation).  I am also a retired financial services executive who spent a good portion of my career living and working in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney. Yoga in the Kawarthas, working and practicing with such remarkable people as Ally, the community at Sarovara, and the larger community, is as rich and interesting as anything I've ever done.

This 9:00am morning class will be lead by one of our Kripalu Certified Yoga Teachers here at Sarovara Yoga, Brian Henderson. This 5 Part Series will deepen your understanding of meditation and the benefits it will bring into your life. Bringing meditation into your life increases immune function, decreases pain and decreases inflammation at the cellular level. Not only that, it increases positive emotion, decreases stress, anxiety and depression. It helps deepen your sense of connection to others, increases social connection and emotional intelligence and best of all, it enhances your self-controlImproves your ability to regulate your emotions and improves your ability to introspect. How does it do all of this? Meditation quite literally changes your brain. Studies show everything from Increased grey matter to increased volume in areas related to emotion regulation, positive emotions, and self-control to increased cortical thickness in areas related to paying attention. How amazing is that?

This class will start with 10 Minutes of centring and gentle pranayama, followed by a sequence of gentle and mindful, meditation in motion style of movement. Then, a 10-15 minute seated meditation, and a relaxing savasana to end the class.
