Gentle yoga is perfect for people who want to try yoga for the first time or for those who are looking for a softer approach to their practice. In this class we will combine gentle yoga poses with breathing exercises and yoga postures to stretch and strengthen the body, reduce stress and calm the mind. Everybody is welcome to practice yoga in this supportive environment. Gentle Yoga is a class structured around rejuvenating and healing the body. Yoga props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters, chairs and straps are often used for safe practice, and to allow the body to fully achieve each position comfortably. This class is held at a slower pace and focuses on stretching all areas of the body, while releasing stress and tension from joints and muscles.

Meet Your Teacher

 

Hi! I'm Laura and I am a recent graduate of Amrita living yoga and I'm so excited to start offering classes. Yoga has been an important and grounding part of my life for many years now and taking YTT was a dream come true for me. By day I'm a Public Health Nurse in Sexual Health but my hobby and passion is Yoga! I have a love for many different types of yoga but my current focus is to lead gentle and meditative practises.

I am so thankful for this opportunity to teach at Sarovara Yoga as Ally has been my mentor and favourite teacher for many years now!!

Beginner/Gentle Hatha Yoga is making it's way back into the studio this fall. This class is the perfect style of experience to promote relaxation and inner balance. Whether you are looking for a way to de-stress your life,  stretch and move your muscles, learn calming breathing techniques, cultivate inner resilience or try some beginner’s guided meditations - this class is for you! Classes begin with an centring meditation and pranayama (breathing technique) to calm the nervous system and prepare you to really BE in the moment as you move from posture to posture. Warm up movements (pratapana) promote circulation and synovial fluid in the joints, aid detoxification and nutrient dispersion in the tissues and prepare the entire body for yoga postures. The heart of each class is a sequence of postures that stretch, lengthen, and balance your body leaving you nourished and well rested. Listening to your own body’s wisdom and practicing self-care is always encouraged, if certain postures and movements do not work in your body, consider this an opportunity to explore something different! Awareness to sensations, the 5 senses, the breath and our connection to nature is woven throughout the practice. Each class ends with deep relaxation, meditation and a relaxation gentle hands on/energetic assist. Note: This style of class is very accessible to all different ages and body types. If you are interested in trying yoga but think your mobility is too limited; this may just be the perfect class for you!
